About Pagoda Travel

Pagoda Pro is a curated experiential travel marketplace connecting international travel advisors with exceptional local guides across Japan. We work exclusively with professional travel advisors and host agencies who send high-value clients to Japan — travelers who want authentic, personalized experiences that no group tour or OTA can deliver.
Every guide on our platform is personally selected and vetted by our Japan Destination Manager. We do not list guides who have not been assessed. We do not compromise on quality.

What a Pagoda Pro Booking Looks Like
Before your client arrives, you are connected directly with their travel advisor inside our platform. You can chat, share information, and jump on a video call to discuss the client's requirements, preferences, and any special considerations. You know exactly who is coming, what they want, and how to make their experience exceptional before they land.Our Japan Destination Manager is present throughout. They are available to both you and the advisor at any point — answering questions, clarifying requirements, and ensuring everything is in place before the client travels. You are never left to figure it out alone.

What We Are Looking For
Minimum requirementA minimum of six months full-time working experience as a tour guide in JapanStrong spoken English — your clients are international travelers booking through professional travel advisors, and clear communication is essentialDeep knowledge of at least one region of Japan — Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima, or any other destination you know and operate in wellA genuine passion for sharing Japan with international visitors.

‍Official tour guide certification issued by a recognised Japanese authorityExperience working with independent or luxury travellers rather than group toursAdditional language skills beyond English and Japanese — Mandarin, French, German, and Spanish are particularly valuable given our advisor networkKnowledge of multiple regions across Japan.

What You Earn
Pagoda Pro guides are paid directly for every booking completed through the platform. Rates are competitive and transparent — you know what you earn before you accept a booking. There are no hidden deductions and no commissions taken from your fee by the platform beyond the agreed margin structure disclosed at onboarding.
Guides who consistently receive strong advisor feedback and complete bookings reliably are prioritised for new bookings as the advisor network grows. Performance on the platform builds your profile and your earning potential directly.

How the Assessment Works
Every guide who applies is assessed by our Japan Destination Manager — a native Japanese travel industry professional who knows the market and will speak with you directly. The assessment is a conversation, not an exam. We want to understand your experience, your regions of expertise, your language capability, and how you work with clients.

Certified guides move through the assessment process with priority. Guides without formal certification are assessed on the strength of their experience, their knowledge, and the impression they make in that conversation.

If you are accepted onto the platform you are listed in our certified guide library and made available to our full international advisor network from day one.
